The Clobber Passages

Hello –

I am honored to have officiated at two gay weddings at St. Paul’s and to have been an advocate for gay rights since the 1980s.

Yet it is undeniable that the plain sense of a handful of passages in the Bible seem to suggest that it is against the Bible to support gay rights and gay marriage. These passages are often called the “clobber passages” because gay people often felt “clobbered” when these passages from Genesis, Leviticus and Romans would be quoted to them.

This Sunday, after the 10am service, join our seminarian, Erin, as she explains the very strong scriptural warrant for supporting gay rights and gay marriage and explains how each of the “clobber passages” is not as undermining of those rights as they might seem at first blush.

We’ll be in Duncan Hall.

Blessings, Christopher
