Why St. Paul’s?: A Brief Easter Message

Hello –

This morning, Easter morning, I have the joy of welcoming to our worship people I’ve not seen before, and people I see rarely. At the announcement time I have just a few minutes to give a welcome that might inspire a few to come back or to come more regularly. What might I say?

This morning I say three things, three things I invite you to remember as reasons to bring St. Paul’s deeper into your heart and into the hearts of your friends and family:

• This sacred space could be, not just a place you visit, but a true home for you. Imagine what might happen if you came so regularly that it shapes you and welcomes you like a home. (And Oh, the music!)

• Every Sunday, at the 10am service, there’s a line of people from the altar to the Rosette window who are from age 2 to 92. Where else do you find a such a multi-generational family that you too can be a part of?

• Our watchwords are PrayWorshipServe. Here, we take the practice of Christianity seriously. Many pray for 20 minutes a day and our priest has a passion for helping each person find their own best way to pray. We have seven different ways groups of us lovingly serve the poor in Marin- from the homeless, to the isolated elderly, to our most troubled and stressed youth, to our brothers in San Quentin.

Why do we do all this? Just because Jesus asked us to do them and he’s our teacher.

There you have it. Our beautiful space, our deep and broad community and the rigor of our spiritual practice.

I’m in. How about you?

Happy Easter. He is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Joyfully,

Christopher
