Hello –
This Saturday is our second annual Beach Day at Hart’s Desire Beach on Tomales Bay. Kati will be arriving there when it opens at 8:30am to save us a prime spot on the beach. Last year it was a ton of fun with little hikes, playing and swimming in the water and, for Doug and me, the discovery of a really cool game called Kubb. It’s an ancient Viking game that involves setting up wooden blocks and then knocking them down by tossing dowels at them. Many people can play at once in teams of two. I liked it so much I bought a set and will be bringing it on Saturday.
I encourage you to come and bring food to share. Last year was delightful, sociable and great fun. I expect this Saturday to be the same.
Families, please save the date of Sunday, August 25th. Karin, the new Children’s ministry director and I are planing a special blessing for each child or youth returning to school. It would be wonderful if our whole community could witness and support your child’s entrance into their new grade.
Finally, I come back from vacation chomping at the bit to share with you all that I’ve thought about and created. It all clusters around a phrase that I will be repeatedly inviting you to make your own and use as little reminder throughout the week. The phrase is a variation on one of Moses’ great teachings from the end of Deuteronomy. In his last talk to the people of Israel, just as they are bout to enter the Promised Land, he reassures them ” “The word is very near you.” (Deut. 30:14.) Likewise, I hope to reassure us that “The work is very near you.”
Remember, we pray each Sunday for God to “send us to do the work you have given us to do.” I want to help you discover and name the work God gives you. Stay tuned! The teaching begins Labor Day weekend and the Tuesday following.
