A Big Weekend (Page 58)

First of all, I’m pleased to announce that the debut of the Sunday afternoon experience this past weekend was a success. There were a dozen people at the 5pm Eucharist and it had a very sweet, mellow, sacred feel. We now have another option for worship in beauty of holiness. The Marin Episcopal Youth Group is off to a strong start for its fifth year. Finally, the Colloquium had fourteen of us in lively discussion about good and bad ‘fear’ in the Bible. Join us at Nativity on Sunday afternoons!

This weekend is another big one. Then things settle down a bit.

On Saturday, from 9am to noon is the Discipleship Group Workshop. Come to strengthen your Discipleship Group, get on a path to join a Discipleship Group, or just find out what these things are all about.

On Sunday, from 11:15am to 12:15pm is an all-community meeting about the Hardin Courtyard. Your Vestry has done great, deep work over the summer and we are excited to share with you what we have discovered and to receive your thoughts and reactions. Maggie, Jay, Pat, Larry, John and Steve have done particularly important work for us and have important things to share.

We continue to take strong and decisive steps toward becoming the kind of Christian community prepared to survive and thrive in our increasingly secular age.

Blessings,

Christopher

“Do Not Fear”

Hello – “As we experience change in our churches, we remember that God says, in word and sacrament, ‘do not fear.’” That sentence is one of seven sentences carefully crafted by the twelve priests-in-charge of the twelve Marin Episcopal Churches over the last two years. On Sunday afternoon at 6pm I have the honor of…

Tomorrow: Godly Play and Death Cafe

Hello – Our busy September begins tomorrow. During the 10am service, our children’s program resumes for the school year with Godly Play. Like last year, children are invited to leave after the Collect, as the rest of our community sits for the readings. They return in time for Communion. In the late afternoon, from 4pm…

The Next Three Weekends

Hello – Last week I wrote to you with an overview of what our weekly schedule looks like during the school year. I listed three things for families, four things for worship, five things for service and six things for learning. This week, I chart our course through the next three weekends. Each has at…

Three, Four, Five, Six

Hello – This week, in as few words as possible, I describe three things for families, four things for worship, five things for service and six things for learning. All are available to you at St. Paul’s in September. Three things for Families: • Childcare every Sunday from 9:30am to 11:30am. • Sunday School from…

Emilie Chapman Ashe

Leading up to St. Paul’s 150th anniversary, let’s take a look at some of the former church members. Looking around the church, there are many plaques that name former members of the congregation memorialized by their gifts to the glory of God and in remembrance of loved ones. The silver communion set pictured above is…

News of Three Friends

Hello – I wanted to share with you news of three friends: Helenclare, Kirsten and Daniel. The news of Helenclare isn’t so much news as it is a reminder that tomorrow, Saturday, at 11am we gather at St. Paul’s for her funeral. Helenclare’s spirit was strong and kind and she was one of our matriarchs.…

September Overview

Hello – The rhythm of the year at St. Paul’s is like the way school years used to be. We slow down for the summer just after Memorial Day and we ramp up again after Labor Day. September features a series of start-ups and events that launch us into a strong year together. This email…
