Liturgical Season shifting from Pentecost to Ordinary Time

From the Senior Warden:

This weekend the sun will reach its highest point in the sky, we’ll have the longest days of the year, and summer has definitively arrived. Likewise the Church’s liturgical season has passed from Pentecost to Ordinary Time, also called Trinitytide. “Ordinary” doesn’t mean regular or every-day, but rather comes from ordinal, meaning “numbered,” as the Church counts the Sundays through this time of the year in the hopeful expectation of Advent.

In sync with these seasonal changes, our Renewal Works team is shifting our focus from Landmark One: Becoming Spiritual Leaders of Our Own Faith to Landmark Two: Transparent and Known Leadership. One of the data points that was revealed in the Spiritual Inventory the congregation completed last year was that we could do a better job promoting our congregant leaders so that newcomers — or just those interested — could more easily connect with St. Paul’s many ministries and outreach. We’ve tried to do that by listing as many of those people as we can in the weekly bulletin, and also highlighting different ministries during announcements at Mass. Additionally, for the next five weeks we will have a leader from a different ministry write this Thursday missive, and Father Christopher hopes that going forward more of our congregant leaders will have access to the Thursday email to promote their ministries. Be on the lookout for some other interesting ways we are trying to put a face on the leadership of St. Paul’s.

And finally, please join me and the congregation this Sunday in welcoming Reverend Molly Hawes, who will be celebrating Mass and leading Thursday-night Bible Study (among other things!) during the Rector’s vacation. Summer at St. Paul’s this year will be, as always, vibrant and spirit-filled, so help us ring in this new season this Sunday!                                                                                                                                                                                                                    — Tanner
