Learn to Love and Pray for Ukraine

Hello –

I imagine that we’re all attending to events in Ukraine and wondering what to do. One response that can also lead to other concrete actions is to pray. If you would like to pray with others, parishioner Richard O. is starting half hour long prayer gathering on Zoom on Friday mornings at 7:30am through Lent. If you would like to join, email Richard at ollipops@comcast.net or me a cmartin@stpaulssanrafael.org.

This Wednesday at 7pm, I begin the series Learn to Love in 2022. Here’s a less than two minute video, a new one, to explain what we’ll be up to:

There are two things I’d like to add here. The first is that I assume that whoever comes won’t necessarily know anything about poetry. All you need is some curiosity and a desire to learn to love.

The second is based on the fact that I’ve at least outlined all of the classes through the end of the year. As I look at what we’ll be doing together, I believe this series of classes has the potential to re-establish the very foundation of St. Paul’s, placing us all firmly, and in a new way, on the reality of love. What I will preach and teach on Sundays, and what you start to hear some of your fellow parishioners talking about, will likely shift, as we all take these lessons of how to love into our lives.

What better foundation for a growth strategy could there be than love of God, neighbor and self? I hope you feel moved to participate, starting this Wednesday at 7pm either in Duncan Hall or on Zoom. Email me at cmartin@stpaulssanrafeal.org for the Zoom link and for a PDF of the packet, which includes the two poems we’ll be reading throughout Lent. Otherwise, just show up Wednesday at 7pm in Duncan Hall and I’ll have hard copies of the packet for all.

Blessings,

Christopher
