Basic Christianity and then Stop Hunger Now

Hello –

This Sunday, the 15th, I begin teaching Basic Christianity. The next Sunday, the 22nd, we (of nearly all ages!) get to prepare thousands of meals for the most hungry people in the world.

In Basic Christianity I tell the Christian story from creation to when Jesus comes again to make all things right. Over the course of five sessions, I share a half hour of teaching and then facilitate a half hour of consideration and conversation. I carefully lay out the whole scriptural story so you can finally see how creation, incarnation, the crucifixion, the resurrection, the church and the end times all make one whole story. Every time I teach this, almost everyone has an A-HA! moment, where finally, some puzzle piece falls into place. It’s from 11:30 to 12:30 in the Upper Room.

The following Sunday, from 1pm to 3pm, I encourage you to join me in Duncan Hall as we prepare meal packages for the most hungry people on planet earth. Our sister church of Redeemer had a wonderful experience last year with another church with the organization Stop Hunger Now. On Sunday the 22nd, in Duncan Hall, people from Redeemer, Nativity and St. Paul’s will gather and work together to assemble these meals. Stop Hunger Now brings all the food and the packaging. They also bring the organizational know how. All we need to do is show up, follow instructions and then work side by side with our brothers and sisters in Christ from the other Episcopal Churches in San Rafael for a few hours. Our joint Youth Group will be joining us and children four and older are welcome. Come roll up your sleeves and make a difference. Register here. (Please note that the Safari browser is wonky with this registration. If you use Firefox or Chrome it works fine.)

There, over two weekends, is the essence of life at St. Paul’s: Faithful reflection together followed by faithful action together.

Happy New Year.

Blessings,

Christopher
