Hello –
One of our big projects this fall is putting a big sign in the Redwood Garden, facing the sidewalk. The most important work for the sign will be to tell people what time our worship service is on Sunday, but it’s also a great opportunity to communicate who we are.
So, who are we?
We’re going to explore our identity in the next four Sundays. Our mission is following Jesus together in worship prayer and service, so the first three Sundays will be, in order, worship prayer and service. I will be preaching on worship and prayer and Cara, as a Deacon, will be preaching on service. We will also have a minute for Mission each Sunday with a parishioner telling how these practices have been important to them.
We are also a church not with small groups, but of small groups. So, on the fourth Sunday, August 23rd, which is also our Back to School BBQ, I will be preaching on small groups, ending with reflections on our Discipleship Groups.
This will be a rich August. In addition, please know three things.
First, we will be joined once again for worship by our neighbors at Nativity. They welcome their new Rector, the Rev. David Chatel, in mid-September.
Second, Zoom Bible Study resumes next Thursday, August 6th. We begin a fast march through the entire book of Exodus. Email me at c.h.mrtn@gmail.com.
Finally, I’m thrilled to share with you that my bulk order for Bricks, the leather bound Bible/BCP combo is already at 19! Because I will be reflecting on the Brick in my sermon on prayer on August 9th, I’ll place the bulk order after that time. So, it’s not too late! Just email me if you’re interested. I’ll email all of you who have expressed interest with the actual price before I place the order.
Blessings,
Christopher
