Three Things for Lent

Hello –

Three things for Lent:

1. Basic Discipleship+ begins tomorrow morning (Saturday) at 8:30am and Sunday morning at 11:30am. In this four or five week class I coach people in the Christian practices of daily prayer, telling our own story, listening well to others and doing the work God gives us to do. It’s a perfect Lenten practice.

2. Sunday offers two deep and powerful experiences. The 8am service will be a Celebration of Silence, which is a Eucharist service centered in silence, led by Brigitte and Tanner. In the afternoon, Chloe leads a Death Cafe from 4pm to 6pm. Remember that Momento Mori, the remembrance of ones own death, is an ancient Christian practice, one shared by nearly all wise and rooted faith traditions.

3. I hope you each have gotten a card in the mail from our RenewalWorks team. Here’s the text of it:

Dear Friend in Christ,

Your RenewalWorks team, which led the Annual Meeting this year, encourages you to follow a Lenten Practice inspired by the following Landmark:

Landmark 1: Becoming spiritual leaders of our own faith.
• Signpost a. Read, mark, learn and inwardly digest the Holy Scriptures.
• Signpost b. Embrace a life practicing the disciplines that Jesus taught.
• Signpost c. Share our gifts and money with gladness and singleness of heart.

Possibilities include Bible Studies, Basic Discipleship, our 5 Outreach Projects, reading Bible stories with your children and Forward Day by Day.

Cards without addresses will be a bulletin insert this Sunday and are also available in both the Narthex and the entrance to Duncan Hall. Please one fill out anonymously and put in the nearby baskets. We want to share a picture of how our brothers and sisters in Christ are taking leadership of their own faith this Lent.

Blessings,

Christopher
