Hello –
Tomorrow night, Thursday, I begin leading a Bible Study of one of my favorite books of the Bible, Isaiah. It promises to be delightful and deeply edifying. Join our crew of 6 or 7 in the Downing Library at 6:15pm.
And now a word from Jacob, the leader of our RenewalWorks Group:
“The best job I ever had was as Director of Balboa Teen Health Center (BTHC), a school-based clinic at Balboa High School in San Francisco. Eight years at a high school can wear on a person but my experience at BTHC was joyous and life affirming. I loved working with the youth but most of all I loved being part of a most amazing care team of committed adults who loved the kids and each other. I was the “leader” but in reality every person on staff was a leader in their own right. Everyone embraced our unwritten motto, whoever walks in the door is who we must serve. And there were days when that door swung open in a succession of wounded young people needing care that taxed our strength and resolve. It was then that the leadership capacity and compassion of each staff member was revealed. I loved being there, making a difference and feeling the connection and camaraderie of adults holding fast to a shared mission.
“I have come to feel this way about the RenewalWorks Group and the work that we have presented to this congregation, you, our brothers and sisters in the faith. As Michael Green so eloquently says, the St. Paul’s Roadmap is a call to action to be the leader of your own faith development. Stepping forward into the future doing the work that God has called us to do with gladness and singleness of heart. These are not just words. By sighting the landmarks and following the signposts we enter into a renewed walk with Christ. So, like John Wesley, be prepared to experience a “strange warming of the heart” as we support each other in our journey. ”
Thank you, Jacob!
