Small Groups: Our Heart

Hello –

In pandemic, more of our life common life at St. Paul’s has shifted to small groups. This email is an invitation for you, today, to sign up to join a small group whose sole purpose is to support you and the other members of the group in a vibrant spiritual life. Here’s the link.

But it’s not just our Christian Support Groups and Discipleship Groups that are coming to define our common life. Every week is filled with people from St. Paul’s gathering in small groups. St. Anne’s, our Bible Studies, the Spiritual Forum, the weekday worship services, Vestry, RenewalWorks and even our distance worship on Sundays are all small groups. We gather, mostly on Zoom but not exclusively, we almost always pray, we almost always ask about each other’s lives and then we do the work that’s before us.

The work of the Christian Support Groups and the Discipleship Groups is only to help each of us grow in our life in Christ. The forty or so folks who have participated in the first two rounds of six week small groups have said over and over again that the weekly meeting of their small group has become a spiritual anchor to them and a highlight of the week. Fill out the form, which takes less than a minute to complete, and make a spiritual small group a part of the rhythm of your week.

The groups will start in the next few weeks, as people become available. I will be working with Kirsten this week to put together groups of 4 or 5 people. The Christian Support Groups will meet into December. The Discipleship Groups will meet for “a season of our lives” however long that happens to be. A representative for each group will be invited to meet weekly with Kirsten and me and all the other representatives so that we can all learn together.

I believe that our small groups are what will help us not just survive but spiritually thrive in pandemic. Further, investing in small groups now will set us up to grow in spiritual power and numbers of people as we come to the other side of this difficult season, whenever that may be.

I will be joining a Discipleship Group this month and I can hardly wait! I’ve already filled out the form and I hope you will fill it out too. (Here it is again!)

Now, in these strange times, is the time for you to take another step in your walk with Jesus by joining a small group.
