Our Wonderful Choirs

Hello –

I write with deep thanks for the great work Mike Struck and our choirs do in leading our worship.
I am a believer in music. St. Augustine is often misquoted as saying “the one who sings prays twice.” Even if this phrase doesn’t bear the authority of a great saint, the sentiment strikes me as true. When we sing together in church, or when we hear great singing in our sacred space, our hearts are lifted in a different and powerful way to the praise and glory of God.
I also love music of other sorts made in other venues. I am a lover of jazz, rock, pop, international music and classical music of various sorts. I’m so thankful that good music can be part of our lives in many ways. And yet above all these sorts of music is the music we offer intentionally to God. That’s the work of Mike and the choirs. They take our hearts and our words and, through music, lift them towards heaven.
I love the silence and simplicity of the 8am service, which has no music. But I can’t imagine my life without the music of the 10am service. Part of my deep gratitude is that the bulk of the people making the music are people who will soon be kneeling at the altar with the rest of our whole community.
The chancel choir will continue to rehearse through the summer and will be singing the National Anthem at the Paciifics game on Thursday, June 21st. Throughout the summer, we will be worshipping side by side with those from both choirs who help lead our worship throughout the school year. Please join me in thanking them and thanking Mike for lifting all of our hearts through the great divine gift of music.
Blessings,

Christopher
