Hello –
“As we experience change in our churches, we remember that God says, in word and sacrament, ‘do not fear.'”
That sentence is one of seven sentences carefully crafted by the twelve priests-in-charge of the twelve Marin Episcopal Churches over the last two years. On Sunday afternoon at 6pm I have the honor of beginning a series of weekly conversations about these seven statements. I want to begin with this one on fear because the words ‘fear’ and ‘change’ are so rich for all of us. Scripture and our own experiences have much to teach us about where God is in our experiences of fear and change.
The conversation will take place at 6pm at Nativity. It is one part of a new weekly Sunday afternoon experience shared by the three San Rafael Episcopal Churches. First, there is a Eucharist at 5pm. The Rev. Kirsten Snow-Spalding, the Rev. Daniel London and I will be leading it together. That will be followed by the return of the Marin Episcopal Youth Group and the debut of this Sunday evening conversation time.
For most of this weekend I will be with my son Harper at a men’s weekend. The Rev. Daniel London will be leading services and the spiritual forum in the morning. I will be back in town by 5pm at Nativity to help inaugurate this new shared ministry among St. Paul’s, Redeemer and Nativity.
Blessings,
Christopher
