Hello –
We are already in the season when a lot of organizations ask for our generosity. As you consider the various ways you want to reach out and make a difference, please consider our five Outreach Ministries:
1. Our Homeless Neighbors. In Duncan Hall there are two barrels that are steadily collecting the items we know are most helpful for our homeless neighbors. One barrel is for youth, the other for the general population. Please see the PS to this email for the list of what’s needed and consider purchasing something and putting it in the barrel. The barrels will be taken to Ritter Center on Friday, December 9th.
2. Our Death Row Nine. Last year we sent Christmas Cards to the seven people we were visiting. They got as many as 40 cards and several said it was the most cards they ever received. This year, we’re adding two more men. Starting next week, we’ll have addresses and brief descriptions of all nine of our brothers-in-Christ for those of you who wish to send cards. Our quarterly Death Row Ministry meeting is next Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30. We’re already expecting about half a dozen new people who are coming to find out more. You’re welcome to join us.
3. Teen Parents of Marin. There are two parallel conversations going on right now about how to best serve the population of very young families in Marin. Plans are advancing for a supportive housing complex to be called St. Monnica’s Commons. We’re deeply engaged with a partner called Mutual Housing of California and have many great ideas. At the same time, conversations are developing on how to take the lessons we learned from our four years of hosting Young Moms Marin and apply it to a new ministry. A lunch conversation is planned for mid-January. Contact Janet, Jacob or me to find out more.
4. Teen Success Breakfast. This robust ministry of serving breakfast to the probationary youth of the County Community School, now almost ten years old, always could use some more help. Might this be the season when you finally jump in? Contact Ginny to find out more and schedule a ‘come and see’ visit.
5. Worship at a Convalescent Home. Every other Sunday, a crew ducks out of the 10am service just after receiving communion to go lead some prayers and simple songs at the San Rafael Health Care Center, just a few blocks away. Some chose to come back in time to enjoy coffee hour. Contact Sue if you’d like to spread some Holiday joy with songs and prayers on Sunday mornings.
Advent is a great time to offer our time and our resources together for those in need.
Blessings,
Christopher
