Hello –
This is the third of four brief emails based on our mission to follow Jesus together in prayer, worship and service. Each email is based on a word in the mission statement. Today, we focus on our shared call to “worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.”
When we worship we do what is called the “liturgy.” The word “liturgy” means the work of the people, which tells us that each of us has an important role to play. I often teach that when we worship, it is as though we are putting on a play for an audience of One.
Here are four things:
1. The Newcomer Class on Sunday, January 17th will be a walk-through of our Sunday morning worship service with an explanation of what we are doing and why we are doing it. 11:30am
2. Liturgy Training for all will happen on Saturday, Jan. 23rd starting at 9am. Whatever role you have or you wish to have- altar guild, reader, usher, acolyte, hospitality, singing- come this Saturday morning. Children and youth are particularly encouraged to come! I promise that leading and serving in worship enriches the experience of worship.
3. Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, comes early this year. It’s Feb. 10th, the Wednesday after our Annual Meeting, (and the day before we begin taking photos for our new directory – see link to sign up on the front page of the website.)
4. Rite One for Lent! Both the 8am and the 10am services will be said in the old language for Lent- thees and thous and complicated but dignified sentences. It should be rich!
Please remember that a bedrock principle of the Anglican way of being Christian is that praying shapes believing.
Blessings,
Christopher
