Hello –
As you may know, both of them were in their 90s and have had recent health struggles. Nonetheless, both were in church last Sunday.
Tuesday night, Sue fell in the shower and hit her head. She was taken to the hospital where, on Wednesday morning, the family chose to take her off life support. At the cafeteria that day, George had a heart attack, which eventually caused his death at about midnight. Yesterday, about mid-day, Sue finally died peacefully. Thankfully, I was able to pray last rites with Sue and her family while she was still alive and to pray for healing with George while he was still conscious.
Please pray for the repose of the souls of both of these beloved pillars of our St. Paul’s community. Please pray for their families, who are still in the process of gathering to mourn and give thanks. And please bear in mind these beautiful words from our Book of Common Prayer:
Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servants Sue and George. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, sheep of your own fold, lambs of your own flock, sinners of your own redeeming. Receive them into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen
The families have asked to be remembered in prayers and perhaps cards, but that flowers and food are not needed at this time. We are looking toward a single funeral service for both of them after the first of the year.
