Hello –
Over the summer, some things at St. Paul’s are on hiatus until after Labor Day. But there are three very cool conversations that are slowly unfolding, and you are welcome to join any and all of them.
1. Into the Silent Land. This short book by Martin Laird that introduces the Christian tradition of contemplative prayer has proven very popular with us! I ordered some extra copies and they were immediately snatched away! I’ve ordered a few more copies but you can get your own on Amazon.
2. Julian of Norwich. The Spiritual Forum, from 9:00 to 9:40 each Sunday morning in Duncan Hall, has experienced a new wave of participants. You are welcome to join any Sunday as we read aloud and discuss a few paragraphs from a Christian classic. We are about to dive into Dame Julian of Norwich, a passionate visionary.
3. Leviticus. The Wednesday Bible Study, from 10:00am to 11:15am, is about to begin reading through Leviticus. I have a hunch it will be avery rich experience. The lists of things to do and not do bring to life a culture so foreign from us, yet daily life becomes imaginable as we read of the gritty details. Underneath it all, a firm and still reliable moral vision comes through- a vision of deep and compassionate justice. I know at least one new person will be joint us tomorrow.
Each of these present you an opportunity to work on your Fluency in our spiritual mother tongue. Fluency, along with Community, Abiding, Befriending, Call and and Cross, is one of the six necessary dimensions of a Rigorous Church.
The only other thing I would add is that Tuesday Morning Prayer continues through the summer at 7:30 in our lovely church.
I hope you are having a refreshing summer.
Blessings,
Christopher
