The Next Two Weekends

Hello –

The next two weekends are filled with events that represent who we are.

Saturday, the 28th. Kate, Diana and Kati will be at a table on 4th Street for the annual downtown Trick or Treat event. They’ll have a large, beautiful poster, and cards and candy to pass out, all proclaiming the good news of St. Paul’s. Come by and say hello and support this new event on our Runway for Growth. (Meanwhile, Erin, Kristen, John and I will be at Diocesan Convention.)

Sunday, the 29th. At 10am worship we will bless birthdays and anniversaries from both September and October. After the service, in the playground by the side of the church, I begin Basic Discipleship. In Basic Discipleship I give tow of the greatest gifts I know how to give. I teach and support people in discovering how God has already given them a way to pray, and I create the space for people to tell their own stories of life in God. All are welcome.

Saturday, November 4th. At 2pm we have the funeral for Jack “Bless His Bones” B. The funeral will be followed by a reception catered by our beloved Chef Cynthia. All are welcome.

Sunday, November 5th. On this Sunday we celebrate All Saints. There are two things to know. First, that’s the Sunday we read the Necrology, the list of all our loved ones who have died since last year’s All Saints’. If you’re not sure whether someone you love who died in the last year is one the list, please email me at c.h.mrtn@gmail.com. Second, Erin will be preaching a special sermon where she’s encouraging all of us, if we have one, to bring an object that belonged to someone we love, like the tea cup of a grandmother.

The next weekend brings the annual party to write Christmas Cards for folks on Death Row on Saturday, and on Sunday, a little celebration of Mike’s 40th anniversary as Music Director of St. Paul’s and, in the afternoon, another Death Cafe hosted by Chloe. So stay tuned!

Blessings, Christopher
