The Church is Open Today for Prayer

Dear Friends –

On this day when we inaugurate a new President, St. Paul’s is open all day for prayer. Three things:

• I commend to you the recent statement from our Presiding Bishop, the Most Reverend Michael Curry, about the importance of praying for our president. It is one of the finest statements from a Presiding Bishop of my lifetime. They are words to take to heart. Please follow this link.

• As Christians, I believe it is our call to be civil, which I take to be the difficult stance of both standing firmly in the truth as we know it, and being in reconciled relationship with our neighbor, who may have a different view than we do. Further, as Christians we are called to be good citizens of our nation, but first to always remember that we have just one LORD, who says, in word and sacrament “do not fear.”

• Christian hands pray, and Christian hands serve. Join fifty of us on Sunday afternoon in Duncan Hall as we assemble meals for the most hungry people in the world through the organization Stop Hunger Now. We are a people of both contemplation and action.

God bless America.

Faithfully,

Christopher
