Hello –
This Sunday is the feast of Pentecost, the annual celebration when our sacred space is draped in red and we rejoice in the birth of the Christian Church. On this Sunday, we remember that the Church was born in tongues of spiritual fire just 50 days after Jesus rose from the dead. (The word ‘pentecost’ comes from Greek for 50).
The feast of Pentecost is the perfect time to officially begin preparations for a great celebration of our 150th birthday of St. Paul’s in Marin County. We were founded in 1868 and so, in January of 2018, we can let the fun begin. And it’s not too early to start getting ready.
At our recent Vestry retreat, the biggest conversation was about how to best celebrate our 150th. There are three things that we came up with, each of which were ideas and hopes that had already been expressed by many of you. This Sunday, it will be our pleasure to share with you these three ideas and invite you into the creative work of making them a spectacular reality.
In the sermon on the mount, Jesus teaches ‘you are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lamp stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.’
In 2018, for our 150th, let us let our light shine bright in Marin and beyond!
Blessings,
Christopher
