Our 7 Outreach Communities

Hello –

It is a great testament to the character of St. Paul’s that our church, with about 90 people on an average Sunday, has 7 healthy outreach projects. Each involves 3 or more people and most happen every week.

I know it can all be hard to track so here, in one email, is a brief run-down.

• Our Homeless Neighbors. We have three ways we connect with our homeless neighbors in San Rafael. Some volunteer at (1) St. Vincent de Paul preparing and serving meals. Some prepare and hand out bags of groceries at the (2)Ritter Center. (And many bring in groceries for our basket for Ritter that’s blessed each Sunday- please help!). And some help prepare and serve a weekly dinner on Tuesdays with the (3) Homeless Chaplaincy.

• Shut In Seniors. Every other week on Sunday at 11am a crew goes to the (4) San Rafael Health Care Center on 5th, right across from Marin Academy, and leads a sweet little ecumenical service.

• At Risk Youth. Every day of the school year we serve breakfast at the (5) County Community School for probationary youth through our Teen Success Breakfast. Every Friday afternoon we host (6) Young Moms Marin with support and conversation downstairs for the moms and structured childcare upstairs for the kiddos.

• North Seg. We now have seven different men we visit or write who are in North Seg at San Quentin. North Seg is the area for those who, in a grim joke, call themselves ‘the best of the worst.’ Out of about 700 men on (7) Death Row, these are the 66 best behaved.

The invitation is always open for you to ‘come and see’ at any of these. This Sunday after the 10am service, for example, Richard Olive will be leading a conversation and exploration of our Death Row ministry in the Upper Room.

Remember, Jesus said ‘surely as you did it to one of the least,’ you did it to him. These are the seven ways that we, together, explore the meaning of Jesus’ mysterious and lovely words.

Blessings,

Christopher
