Starting this week and going until Christmas the campus will be busy with major work on our campus. The two most significant projects are a new children’s bathroom in the education wing and solar panels on the roof of the education wing.
This works represents many hours of careful deliberation by your vestry and other parish leaders. It has also required careful coordination with Marin Day School, the City of San Rafael and a range of contractors.
It will also require patience and attention on all of our parts as we negotiate the various inconveniences of such major work.
The good news is that both projects represent significant investments in our future. The school is investing $300,000 in our campus now and the income from their renting our space comes to over 40% of our annual income. The solar panels cost us only the work to the roof, and bring us annual savings to our electrical bill and, if things play out as we expect, mean almost no annual electricity costs after a period of about fifteen years, a savings of nearly $15,000 a year in today’s dollars.
Our work now is assuring a financially secure future. We are giving a gift to our future selves and to those who come after us.
I have had to communicate a lot of practical things recently. It’s the season we are in. But soon, things will shift. Advent is nearly upon us. After the first of the year, we will be offering a variety of new ways to get into our PrayWorshipServe rhythm and so prepare for a Holy Lent. In May, we are preparing to host a retreat based on the movement that emerged from St. Paul’s, The Restoration Project.
Have faith! Good things are happening!
In the meantime, many thanks to those of you who have already turned in your pledge card. If you haven’t done it yet, please mail or bring it in soon so that the Vestry can create a faithful budget for 2015.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Blessings,
Christopher
