Hello –
A saying repeated often through the course of the Psalms is the admonition to “worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” Since I came to St. Paul’s nearly twelve years ago that phrase has nicely summoned up our attitude to worship.
Next Saturday, the 30th of January we are taking two hours, from 9am to 11am, to deepen and refine our 10am worship service and the hospitality that surrounds it.
Whatever role you have or would like to have on Sunday mornings, I encourage you to come. All roles will be open for training.
I have heard from so many of you who have active roles how much those roles mean to you. I’ve heard that preparing the altar with our beautiful things is an act of worship. That the words of scripture come alive as you prepare to read them aloud. That the hospitality of ushering or serving coffee hour connects you to a sense of community and home. That there is sacred awe that comes to you as you serve at the altar.
If you aren’t already doing one of these things, are you ready to take another step in your life of faith by stepping into one of these roles?
I particularly encourage our youth. Those of you who were privileged to be at our 5pm Christmas Eve service saw five of our youth step into a range of leadership roles and do so with great dignity and poise. They are our future!
Please encourage your youth to come next Saturday. If they can’t make it then, please still contact me. This ministry could develop into one of the formative experiences of their teen years.
Blessings,
Christopher
