Your Opportunities for Prayer

Hello –

One of my most deeply held convictions is that we best grow in our life in God through two parallel pilgrimages. One is the pilgrimage of daily prayer, the other is the weekly pilgrimage of loving service of our local least.

This week I share with you six opportunities for you to make progress now in your inner pilgrimage of regular prayer.

First, we now have four weekday opportunities for you to come and pray in our sacred space. On both Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30am a small group gathers in the church to pray Morning Prayer. We have created an easy to follow 11″ x 17″ bulletin. Come learn this rich and beautiful way to pray. It takes less than half an hour.

Second, also on Tuesdays and Thursdays, small groups gather in the church for 20 minutes of quiet. At 5pm on Tuesdays and at 5:45pm on Thursdays, we gather in the church and I set an meditation alarm. 20 minutes later, it dings and we say the Lord’s Prayer. Come savor the silence and the afternoon light.

Finally, this weekend I start Basic Discipleship on Saturday at 8am and on Sunday at noon. Among the things I do in Basics Discipleship is teach people how to get into and maintain a rhythm of 20 minutes a day of prayer. I’ve done this now with hundreds of people and it is one of the greatest joys of my life. I would love to share this teaching with you and encourage you to find your own best way of prayer.

There is an ancient Christian saying from Basil the Great- “fish are meant to swim, birds are meant to fly, women and men are meant to pray.” Come pray with us at St. Paul’s.

Blessings,

Christopher
