Angelus in Concert: Sacred Music for Women’s Voices

Comprised of six young women from the Mt. Vernon Senior High School Fine Arts Academy (Mt. Vernon, IN), the members of Angelus have dedicated themselves to the performance of the sacred music of varied religious traditions and historical periods. Featuring music ranging from medieval chant and polyphony to contemporary Irish choral music and the American Sacred Harp tradition. Free. See more info on the Facebook Event.

Angelus has performed over sixty public concerts in eleven states since 2009 including performances in the metropolitan areas of Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and St. Louis. In 2012, Angelus was awarded the first “Ensemble Arts Award” by the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. In 2014, Angelus performed at the American Choral Directors Association Central Division Conference in Cincinnati.

 

The ensemble has released six recordings, “Sacred Expressions”, “Concert at St. Benedict Cathedral”, “Hymns to the Virgin”, “Michael McGlynn: Music for Women’s Voices”, “Contemplation” and “Shadows of Heaven”. Several recordings are available after the concert and also at iTunes, Amazon and other online retailers. “Michael McGlynn: Music for Women’s Voices” has been featured nationally on “Celtic Connections” through NPR and in the Netherlands on “Song From Ireland”.
